PLAYING STYLES: THE COUNTERATTACK

PLAYING STYLES: THE COUNTERATTACK

Football counterattack aims to catch the opponent off guard. When the opposing team loses possession in midfield or attack, defenders tend to be away from their usual area to support the attack, and this is the right time to start a counterattack through long, accurate passes using either a very fast player who manages to break the defensive line. To play on the counter may be needed one or two strikers near the halfway line to receive the ball when the counter is started or to attract the attention of defenses and open holes.

Counter not only involved the front, but also defenders and midfielders can participate trying to go forward in numerical superiority and moving the ball quickly and intelligently. Speed is an important factor this style of play, both for those who use it and for those who want to counter it. The teams usually play good counter pressure so strong midfielders to lose the ball.

- Phase 1: steal and fast output, ensuring the first pass, making a short, fast and space pass.

- Phase 2: fast development, using short passes, quick and space.

- Phase 3: end, action must always end with an explosive surprise release.
